The WA380-8 sits in the class most often specified for loading 20–30 tonne trucks from a stockpile, feeding crushers, and general yard work. The 3.0 m³ general-purpose bucket and 158 kN breakout force handle blasted rock as well as aggregate and soil. The lock-up torque converter engages in second gear and above, which lifts travel speed and drops fuel consumption on longer load-and-carry cycles — the difference is most visible where the haul exceeds about 50 metres.
